Speaking topic: LAW PANEL: Our Future: The Legal Landscape Of The CBD Industry What is Delta-8 and the Blurred Lines of Its Legality
I'm the Executive Director of the Hemp Industries Association, a nonprofit membership organization for hemp businesses, farms, and supporters. Established in 1994, the HIA has formed the beating heart of the U.S. hemp community for more than 25 years, focusing on realizing the full potential of hemp as an agricultural resource. Led democratically by a volunteer Board of Directors, the HIA continues its historic role as defender of hemp today, filing lawsuits in Federal Court in response to the DEA's Interim Final Rule on hemp that threatens to criminalize extraction. We focus on consumer education through our annual Hemp History Week retail marketing campaign, and educating the industry through virtual and live events. Our mission is to educate the market and advance the hemp economy for the benefit of our members, the public, and the planet. Jody McGinness comes to the Hemp Industries Association with greater than twenty years of experience in leading associations and membership organizations in the nonprofit sector. Most recently he served as the head of fundraising for the Marijuana Policy Project while that organization campaigned successfully to pass adult-use legalization legislation in Illinois and Michigan as well as engineering the passage of medical cannabis legalization in Utah. His passion for hemp is informed by personal experience, having witnessed family members who were directly harmed by prohibition, and he is inspired by the potential of the U.S. hemp industries to be developed sustainably, in a way that provides equitable opportunities for entrepreneurship, spurs innovation, and invests in rural communities. He makes his home just outside the nation’s capital, where he resides with his family, and -in what free time he is able to find- he enjoys experiencing the wonders of the natural world through the eyes of his three young children.
